    Hsin said I should have known not to trust any company which suffixes a -Z to their name.

    But how was I to know! Firefly is affiliated with MAS Malaysian Airlines (so people can google this and find my blog), which although expensive, is widely trusted and provides very good service and customer care most of the time.

    So this is the story of our ongoing nightmare with Firefly.

    The 6 of us booked our flights to and from Redang through Firefly a whole 2 months before our trip.

    We paid everything in full.

    Then about 4 days before Redang, we received notification that our flight leaving Redang was delayed from 4pm to 10pm.

    We were quite upset about it because it meant that we had to wait around in Kuala Terengganu for 8 hours or so, because our boat from Redang Island to the mainland was at 12pm.

    We contemplated taking a bus back or booking an earlier flight with AirAsia instead, but decided against it, thinking that we could live waiting for 8 hours.

    Then on our way back from Redang, in the ferry, Suet received an SMS from Firefly telling us that our flight had been further delayed to 1.3o am!!!

    WHO ON EARTH TAKES A PLANE AT 1.30 AM!!!!

    Everyone was going crazy calling up our parents back in KL to tell them what shit has happened now wtf.

    Latat called up Firefly who told him that we could cancel our tickets and get refunds, and look for other options of getting home.

    We decided to rush to the airport to see if we could get an earlier flight back to KL. This was at 3pm.

    So we got to the airport. And there, the airport staff informed us that there was no way that there could be a 1.30 am flight with Firefly as the airport closes at 11pm.

    SO THIS MEANS THAT FIREFLY SIMPLY TALK COCK AND TELL US THE FLIGHT IS AT 1.30 AM FOR NO FUCKING GOOD REASON AT ALL.

    Since the airport wouldn’t let them land, they had to cancel the flight. The next available flight out was at 8am the next day.

    And they never bothered to inform us!

    If we hadn’t gone to the airport early, we would never have found out!

    What if we decided to stick with the 1.30 flight and only went to the airport say at 11pm? We would have just found out the flight was canceled and then we would be stuck in Kuala Terengganu for the night.

    WHAT KIND OF FUCKING SERVICE IS THIS?

    In our anger, Tze and I went around kicking Firefly signs in the hopes that they would topple over wtf. Unfortunately mine didn’t wtf but Tze’s did.

    Suet and Ooib went to talk to the MAS personnel in the airport to ask for a refund and compensation, while the rest of us went to Airasia to book new flights. (Suet didn’t let us go with her because she didn’t want us shouting and ruining whatever progress she could make wtf)

    So she talked to this MAS guy called Ajimat / Ahjimat / Ahjeemat / Azimat wtf who looked like a MAS big shot because he had a jacket wtf.

    He promised us full refunds on our tickets (he said to just go to the Firefly outlet at Subang Airport with our boarding passes and we would get our refunds) and refreshments.

    So we went ahead and booked our AirAsia flights and wiped out the buffet at the airport restaurant wtf.

    Today, Suet and Ooib went to Subang Airport to get our refunds.

    The people there told them that:

    1) they could not do anything about the flight delays/cancellation because one of their planes was grounded, and they had not enough aircraft to fly the other routes.

    2) we would get no such refund. They had talked to fucking Ajimat who claimed there had been a “COMMUNICATION BREAKDOWN” and he had never told us we could get our money back.

    WTFFFFF I DON’T FUCKING CARE IF YOUR PLANE IS GROUNDED OR AIRED OR WHATEVER. THE POINT IS FUCKING FIREFLY IS SELLING US A SERVICE AND WE PAID FOR THAT SERVICE AND WE HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO RECEIVE IT.

    IF YOU CANNOT DELIVER WHAT YOU HAVE PROMISED YOU BETTER FUCKING FOLLOW UP WITH A FULL REFUND PLUS COMPENSATION

    DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH WE SPENT ON THE PHONE CALLING OUR FAMILIES IN KL TO TRY TO GET ALTERNATIVE FLIGHTS BACK?

    DO U KNOW HOW MUCH STRESS ALL 6 OF US WENT THROUGH THAT DAY BECAUSE OF FIREFLY?

    AND HOW CAN YOU FOB US OFF WITH STUPID EXCUSES ABOUT COMMUNICATION BREAKDOWNS? EAT SHIT LA DO WE LOOK LIKE KIDS OR IDIOTS TO YOU

    WE HEARD WHAT YOU SAID AND IF YOU THINK YOU CAN DENY EVERYTHING BECAUSE IT IS YOUR WORD AGAINST OURS YOU ARE WRONG

    Ooib wrote an email to them complaining and to their credit, they replied very promptly in the same day.

    But the compensation they offered was a one way ticket to any destination in Malaysia for all 6 of us. No cash refund for our wasted KT-Subang flight.

    What fucking good is a one way ticket? We still have to buy the other way to go anywhere, we would still be spending extra money and Firefly would just profit from it.

    In total, Firefly has already cost us RM 1200+ (rm218 per person to book new tickets on AirAsia) That’s about USD 400.

    I cannot believe how irresponsible and thickskinned Firefly and its employees are.

    How the hell do they expect to compete with AirAsia and the other budget airlines if they can’t even do a simple thing like provide what they are selling to their customers?

    Jam looked on google and found this link *click* where other people have been complaining about Firefly for the exact same issue.

    So if this is a recurring problem, WHY THE HELL ARE THEY NOT DOING ANYTHING TO RESOLVE IT?

    This is a huge warning to everyone not to take Firefly to any destination, even if they are offering cheaper prices than other airlines.

    So what if it’s cheaper? You never know when they might choose to delay or cancel your flight. You could just be stuck somewhere, or unable to get to where you want to go just because some irresponsible idiot’s actions.

    Companies with such little disregard for customer opinion and welfare do not deserve to earn our money, especially when the product/service they are providing sucks balls.

    I will not stop ranting about Firefly until I get at least a full cash refund on my plane ticket plus compensation to cover my AirAsia ticket. >((((((((((((((((

    EDIT:

    Since this post was written, Fireflyz has since refunded us in the form of free one-way tickets to any destination in Malaysia (where they fly to of course).  Many people have spoken up and said that they have had no problem flying Firefly so it’s unfortunate that we did.  However, I am going to leave this post up to present a fairer view of what problems flying with budget airlines (not just Firefly) might pose.

      i saw some reviews about firefly a year back and their customers has problems with their service.. and they are rated 0.5stars out of 5… imagine that?

      so next time, better pay a little more for a good service and always check for reviews first.

      I was reading your post and Suet Li’s about this abhorrent thing called Fireflyz. With regard to making your “show up first on Google when I type Firefly / Fireflyz”, i will suggest a campaign as follows:

      Get a lot of people to link this page using the text “Fireflyz”, making sure these links are important ones (meaning not small font hidden in some corner of the page).

      For your page to be the first hit on Google, your page need to be important. And important pages have many links pointing to it. Links that are more prominent, or from more prominent sites, add to the page’s importance.

      I will start by adding “Audrey’s Fireflyz experience” and “Suet Li’s Fireflyz experience” to my sidebar.

      ps. I think the name Fireflyz is so damn bimbotic. What’s with the Z?

      u need our help then, as long as there are enough traffics diverted from the google search page to your blog, it will be on top in no time… just ask all your readers (and the other bloggers’ readers) to search for “FireFly fourfeetnine” and click in from there… you may need a few hundred clicks :D

      I tried calling the stupid office also and only got through after hearing the stupid firefly jingle for 10 mins and the guy who answered was mighty rude.

      that happened to me too when i went to langkawi last month, we weren’t informed that our flights got suspended!!! my friend called up and asked about it and only they told us that it got canceled!! and trust me the personnels in firefly SUCKS!we made them fly us there and in the end we have to fly from kl-penang-langkawi-penang-kl -___-

      and when i called up, they lied to me that my friend agreed on the refund which is obviously bullshit -__-

      Hi, i got my schedule changed 4 times, re-scheduling without any notification. The last ten days before depart was crazy, it has been changed frequently, early morning online check itinerary will not be the same as you check at the evening. And one things is confirmed, they DID call you up and SMS to tell you the flight schedule is changed. BUT IT IS TOO LATE!

      Thank GOD, my flight, both depart and return, went smooth. I’ve bought a pewter key-chain inflight as souvenior, and i’ve told myself no more FIREFLYZ anymore.

      send them a lawyer’s letter, or get a friend who is a lawyer to write them a letter (you need some legal jargon to scare them a bit, if you don’t want to afford legal fees) claiming full compensation, and that not only were you not offered the service you paid for, you were lied to by the company.

      threaten to take legal action and see what they do.

      then complain to consumer society or whatever, write to newspapers. you want to name and shame

      I’d suggest you complain to newspapers’ hotline as the compensated one-way ticket and have to be used within the next 3 months is of no use to you guys as most of you will be leaving the country to continue your studies once your summer holidays over; unless they are willing to pay for your tickets to your respective countries hahaha

      Go to Trade and Consumer Affair and lodge a complain. Bring them on to COnsumer Court and get compensation. Fight for your right my friend. I have had my case w another company and they compensated me because i complained to the ministry

      Sorry for u, i have no problem with Fireflyz. I went to Perhentian and had booking the ticket a few months before and thank God, everything was smooth and on time. Fireflyz have a bigger interior than air asia, very near to my house n i like it. Maybe it’s not ur luck. Pity for u.

      Pity for ur sad exprience with the worst airlines! However i took FireFlyz 1 times frm PG to L’kawi with no problem. In AirAsia, their delay my flight to Labuan frm KL but only 2 hour.

      I suggest u bring urs cases to Consumer Court.

      OH, my. I wish I came across your blog earlier because I am in Hong Kong and I bought tickets to fly from penang to langkawi during chinese new year, and I have to get back to penang and then back to HK to work!!!

      Please can you put your problem on www.tripadvisor.com because a lot of foreigners use that to check on hotel reviews and travel arrangements.

      I am so worried that I am going to book ferry tickets just in case because if they cancel and I am stranded then I am so screwed.

      Why do they cancel so much ? Well, a friend in the airline industry tells me that budget airlines will not fly if they don’t have enough passengers because they don’t cover their fuel costs etc…so the airline cancels and groups everyone together!

      Today, I just googled a word “fireflyz” for the 1st time, and I saw “Fuck Fireflyz” on the 4th row of the page.

      Kudos to you guys for getting to google page 1 for search on fireflyz, well done good seo.
      I am appalled at your treatment by this company as you clearly have a case for recompense here.
      However your barbed approach using so many swear words is not helping your case.
      By using a streetwise kid approach you will get respect from your peers but unfortunately many people will not take your case seriously because of your unprofessional approach borne no doubt out of genuine frustration at a serious breach of consumer rights.
      Take them to consumer court but please do not use the term ‘wtf’.

      There are worst case scenario for other airlines. If you were to check out the forum of other airlines, some of those complaints are worst off.

      For 1 plane to be grounded, the next flight will obviously be affected and will be badly affected if it occurs during peak season.

      Frankly speaking I have no problems with Firefly. The two flights that I took last year were on time. No delay.

      I had similar experience today as well. The worst thing is my parents, both are more than 60 years old, are the direct victims of FireFlyz as they canceled the flight without any notification. My parents ended up wasting a lot time (you know, they’re already old and time is very precious for them and old people get tired easily) and need to pay for more than RM1200 to get MAS tickets.

      *Sigh* how can this be happening?

      Sorry for the late reply. It’s flight FY1001 on 28 Apr 2009 from Kota Bharu to Penang. And you know what, they’ve discontinued to service the route without even publishing it. Not even notifying the customer who bought the tickets. This is very disappointing
      Just for your record, I got the tickets on 16 Feb 2009.

      wow, i was doing a part report on fireflyz and this is something. however,when i travel i’ve nv used mas, but my family members has used fireflyz before and there wasn’t seem to be a problem as their delays were due to weather problem. but for Air Asia, i had experienced delays from australia to kl and from kl to png. both flights had delays. each about 2 to 3 hrs. I would not go to the extend of f****** fireflyz, as in every airline there’s sure to be delays there and then. anyways, i was thought by my lecturer that MAS stands for Mana Ada System, and i’ve yet to check it out if its true. although from their past they did made some mistakes, which allowed Air Asia to be better than them, anyhow if u guys are determined then u should fight it all out… till u get ur refunds…and probably free flights..2 way… =)

      If you can use the 4 letter word on Firefly, I just could not imagine what word you guys will use on those low cost airlines.

      Sorry to hear about your horror firefly experience.

      Someone suggested taking MH as an option, but rest assured, you are also at risk.

      Once i had a MH flight KUL to PEN; scheduled for 0900; to catch a meeting at 1100 in Penang. Fine.

      Delayed until 1100am. not only that, the 1100am flight was made up of combined passengers from my original 0900 and another flight. Whats more, several passengers from the 2nd cancelled flight could not board at 1100am due to insufficient seats, they were offered the next available flight ( around 12noon or sth later ).

      Needless to say, those who had business meetings scheduled were totally upset and made a huge fuss at the transfer counter.

      conclusion:
      taking full service airlines eg MH, is no guarantee of unexpected delays. We can only hope they take care of passengers ” better” should such delays occur.

      Sure, in air travel, the unexpected can happen. WE have to accept that. What people get upset is; if the manner its handled turned out unfair and no refund etc.. no refreshments…

      One more thing: If you wonder why the budget airlines ( or any airline for that matter ) can let certain horror situations happen ( eg last minute cancelled without notice etc ); they are merely going on the business ” rule of probability”.
      so what if you are part of the 1% of horror stories. 99% of customers were fine. Lets say they allowed for up to 2 or 3% ‘of total flights per year, to have bad happenings’, then if you happen to be within that 1 or 2$, they could not care less if you FX them everywhere. Anyway people still continue to take their service. Sad, but true.

      >> go to consumer court ( small claims tribunal ) if you got time and resources. That is, if you view that the compensation offered ( one way ticket ) was un fair. i believe its unfair, they should at least award you a RETURN ticket with some expenses cost. That is, if the management values good will.

      PS Air asia is not without its horror stories as well - prolonged delays, lack of compensation, last minute cancellations, etc have happened before. But hopefully they are genuinely trying to improve.

      I opened the papers today and I saw the Firefly Advert in the Singapore’s Straits Times. I got curious (due to the air france crash) and I googled fireflyz and you are 3rd in the front page. Obviously the sweet 4-letter word is an eye-catcher. Just to let u know that and what a great blog!

      I hate firefly too! i booked a flight to phuket in april and just yesterday they sms me to tell me they are cancelling the return flight! i emailed their so called email add and no reply. called them and no help at all. I now have to rebook on airasia much more! never never go with them, MAS has the worst management ever. stick with airasia. thats what i say.

      Firefly is offering bad service and stupid dumb dumb staff. I had a bad experience with Firefly when we(4) travel to Phuket in January…2 bags was gone missing! The FIREFLY STAFF are dumb and stupid! Corporate affairs staff are ‘bodoh’!!       and Air Asia say what!!! sorry Excess Baggage is RM55!!! I was like er.. is it all my luggage below 15KG?? they just say yes but 15KG is 1 BAG not 3 mah!!! so RM55 lor U wan cheap airlines U have to pay lor!!! Kanasai!!! my flight fr KL to PG is say!!! RM 150!!! Kanasai!!!!

      I dont know you girl but airlines cancel their flights!!! BUSSES cancel and delay their journey!!!, KTM dont even mentioned!!! that!!!

      so DRIVE LAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Fireflz gives lousy inflexible service and doesn’t care about its customers. I went to see the manager on duty and he was not only unsympathetic to my situation, he got up and left the office to discourage any further talk after he flatly refused to help.

      if you put you hand deeper in your pocket you can fly MAS.no problem,
      in the Uk you have charter and schedule flights,charter flights are cheaper and fly at crap times during the night.
      Schedule fights pay to have the premium flight times so this makes them expensive. So in Asia we call charter fights budget airlines.
      These will allways be delayed or bumped to a new time slot if there are problems.
      just the way it is.
      Pays your money take your choice.

      I was about to book a ticket to Taiwan when I bump into this post. I am really shocked to see what I just saw. Thank god you posted this up. But honestly, I think if you want a 100% guaranteed non-delayed flight, perhaps MAS Airlines is still far most the best. The price shows it all I guess :)

      Anyway, there is no way you can’t put your post up on google search unless they search exactly as your title criteria “FUCK YOU FIREFLYZ : *fourfeetnine*”

      I was going to book fireflyz to Langkawi due to it’s convenient location at the old Subang Airport but after reading this, I have changed my mind.
      Inconvenience of going to Sepang is nothing compared to checking out of the hotel at Langkawi and going to the airport and getting stranded there for 8-12 hours. Or vice versa. WTF.

      1. Use the keywords (firefly suckss or whatever) more frequently in your blog.

      Thanks for telling - I came upon this page while checking out Fireflyz. I was thinking that they are much nearer than LCCT…

      Well I was stranded in Yogyakarta with Airasia once when their *delayed* plane broke down in Yogya.

      We wasted 6 hours in the airport, only to be given some kuehs and a bottle of water. Accomodation was provided at some 2 star inn, dinner KFC also provided.

      The next day 5 something we were taken by bus to another airport (Adi Soemarno or something) 1 hour away to board another plane home.

      No compensation, but I must say that their crisis management is better than Fireflyz judging from your experience here.

      every airlines also faced this kind of problem..which is delayed..either Airsia or Firefly( budget airlines to be precise)

      hv taken both airlines but airasia is the worst but this is what happened if u take cheap airlines..

      dun be such a child with all the f words..chill gurl..

      P/s: are u working with airasia cos it seems that u really hate firefly so much..(juz wondering..hehe)
